Garrett Planning Network and Moneytree — a partnership based on shared values

Sheryl Garret

Values matter at Moneytree.

We don’t just jump into business with anyone. We look for partners who believe in a greater good and are passionate about lifting up others. That’s why we are proud to have sponsored the Garrett Planning Network’s Advisor Retreat, Oct. 17-18, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Founded in 2000, the Garrett Planning Network is a national network of hundreds of hourly-based, fee only financial planners. It is the brainchild of Sheryl Garrett, who is an industry role model when it comes to looking out for the best interests of her clients.

You don’t have to take our word for it, either.

At the Advisor Retreat, the Institute for Fiduciary Standards presented Garrett with its 2023 Frankel Fiduciary Prize, which acknowledges leaders who have made significant contributions to the preservation and advancement of fiduciary principles in public life.

“She does great work for ordinary Americans to learn to save,” said Knut Rostad, President of the Institute.

Two trailblazing women

The Frankel Fiduciary Prize is named for Tamar Frankel. Frankel was the first woman to receive tenure at Boston University Law School. She holds dual law degrees both in the United States and her home country, Israel. She is a leading expert in financial regulation, fiduciary law, and corporate governance. Frankel is still active in the Institute for Fiduciary Standards today, at 98 years old.

Dr. Frankel is a trailblazer for women in the financial services industry, and Garrett has followed in her footsteps.

One presenter described Garrett as a courageous leader, as demonstrated by her vision to create a network of planners who advise using the fee model of project-based hourly rates – a very disruptive concept in the year 2000 when she founded the network.

Throughout the retreat, Garrett reinforced ideals on which she founded the network: making financial planning and advice accessible to all people by equipping advisors with the tools they need to counsel a diverse client base. In short, Garrett has worked tirelessly to demonstrate the trustworthiness of the ideal fiduciary.

We are honored to support Sheryl

Garrett not only received accolades from Rostad, but also was recognized by Phyliss Borzi, former U.S. Secretary of Labor. Clark Blackman, a member of the selection committee, compared Garrett to legendary Vanguard founder Jack Bogle, who made investing more accessible for millions of Americans.

One speech also included praise from President Obama.

Sheryl Garrett has built her career on empowering people to manage their finances to enable to them to live their highest quality of life throughout every season, regardless of their level of wealth.

This is a proud moment for the Garrett Planning Network, and we here at Moneytree are honored to have been invited to participate in this auspicious occasion.

Sheryl, we see you out there.
